MCSE (Microsoft)
The Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) on
Microsoft Windows® 2000 credential is the premier certification for
professionals who design and implement the infrastructure for business
solutions based on the Microsoft Windows 2000 platform and Microsoft .NET
Enterprise Servers.
This certificate is made up of 7 MCP exams (4 Operating system, 1 Design and 2 Elective).
See http://www.microsoft.com/traincert/mcp/mcse
for more information.
There are many organisations who offer MCSE however these
questions should be asked before paying out huge sums of money to a
training organisation
1) Are your trainers qualified to teach MCSE?
You may find that even though their trainers have been passed as
trainers for NZQA they may not yet be qualified to teach MCSE.
To teach MCSE level trainers should have an MCSE and be a registered
Microsoft Certified Trainer
2) How long does an MCSE take ?
Many organisations work on the basis that they receive government
funding for the amount of time they manage to keep a student in
training. So we see training courses that last years and your
student loan grows. At Platinum training you set the speed and this
means you save money in the long run as you either can get a job
faster or have a job while you studying.
3) Am I doing an MCSE course or a NZQA course
We get many calls from students who enrol on a MCSE course to
find they have actually enrolled on a NZQA course. The course
providers tell you you can of course sit the MCSE exams after
completing their course however you might find you actually have to
do an MCSE course to actually pass the exams. Sorry to say but NZQA
is a slow moving beast and the curriculum is not always up to date
EG some training organisation still train in NT4 which you can no
longer sit Microsoft exams for
4) Do we get to install, break and fix networks and systems
Some institutes don't even let you touch inside their PCS let
alone build a domain and break it apart
5) Is my investment protected
Any organisation can of course declare bankruptcy at any point so
you are exposed if you pay a years course or a full price of an MCSE
course upfront. Platinum training only asks for the portion of the
course you are currently training for not the entire MCSE upfront.
This way your risk is minimised
6) Do you train in Windows 2000 or Windows XP/ 2003
There are two current tracks for MCSE - Windows 2000 or Windows
2003. The choice is yours however please research which one you need
not the one the training provider has available. Ring us to if you
need to know the difference and how these products are placed in the
market
